There is a phrase in Swahili, Umoja ni nguvu — Unity is strength. Without the union each faculty member stands alone. But none of us want to stand alone. When my job was in trouble and I had to fight for it, UFF stood with me, fought for me, and gave me a voice when I didn’t think I had one. When things are up, you have a union. When things are down — and when you really need help — you have a union. Having a voice as an NTT faculty member at UF means having a collective voice at all times.
